To make money online, at least to any significant degree, is more difficult than the thousands of flashy headlines out there might suggest. In fact according to some statistics, less than 2% of internet marketers are making more than $2000 a month. While the statistics are daunting, I can tell you first hand that it can be done. I make roughly $5,000 a month online, however, it took me nearly a year of full time effort and massive amounts of research to get to that point.

One of the major problems that the would-be internet marketer faces is simply knowing where to begin. There is so much information out there when it comes to making money online - much of it bad information by the way - that one can spend months, even years going in circles and chasing one bit of bad information after another.

The first thing you need to know if you are serious about trying to make money online is that it is not going to happen overnight. Those headlines you have read that promise to make you rich overnight are lies. Unless you get freakishly lucky or a professional mentors you through the process, it is simply not going to come easy. It can however, be done.

The second thing you need to grasp before you should even begin are the basic, most fundamental, methods that people use to make money online. It's shocking how many people in the internet marketing game don't even truly understand what internet marketing is.

Internet marketing is essentially selling your own or other people's products to traffic that is generated online. So in more specific terms, Internet marketing is about generating traffic and selling to that traffic. You can generate that traffic in a number of different ways. Primarily this is done either by creating content in the form of blogging, article marketing, forum marketing, etc, or by paying for traffic in the form of PPC, banner ads, press releases, offline advertising, or giving commissions to other marketers for generating sales for you. Once you lock in to those basic ideas, you can begin refining and expanding upon what works.

Making money online is a forever changing art form. It will not happen over night but it can happen. Unfortunately, the concept of sitting back all day at the beach sipping Margaritas while you rake in the millions is for the most part a giant myth. But the good news is that like anything in business, if you can come up with a way to add value to other people's lives, there is a good chance people will pay you for it. You need only to take the first step.

There are a few Real Gems out there as far as internet marketing courses go. You can disregard the flashy headlines and the over hyped promises, but I've tried the following and it really does work.
